A nation wide police hunt began with her father Lloyd Berry reporting she left with two suitcases and planned to return by Thursday or Friday. He noted she had expressed a wish to go to California and had cashed a war savings bond recently to settle a college debt, which police found she owed none. Authorities in Chicago St Louis and Amarillo Tex were alerted as part of the search.
