Johnson Gets New Trial For Murder Case

Brooklyn jewel thief walks from Raymond Street Jail

Frank Brown known as Dad Norton and Dick McGuire, a noted burglar, escaped from Raymond Street Jail in Brooklyn after an hour inside. Police seek him while he faces charges of stealing jewelry worth about 3000 and cash from former State Senator William J. Laroche. Brown had been brought from Chicago to answer the charges. He reportedly left during a guard’s escort as prisoners exercised, leaving thanks to officials for permitting a visitor.

Paynter Named Democratic Candidate for U S Senate

Judge Thomas H. Paynter of the Kentucky Court of Appeals won the Democratic nomination on the first joint caucus ballot to succeed Senator J C S Blackburn. Paynter received 59 votes to Blackburn 34 Haldeman 10 and David H Smith 1, with 63 needed. The nominating battle ends a 40 year tense Kentucky political contest.
