Frank DeKleva 30 of Wintondale, residence Homer City, was held up by four unidentified men yester day morning in Derry Township near Blairsville. He hired a stranger for a ride home after no bus was available. Three more men joined the ride, diverting toward Route 22 and Derry Two where DeKleva was robbed of his ring 80 dollars and overcoat and beaten, suffering a broken nose and facial injuries. State police are investigating.

Early today a car crash near Derry killed Mike Bohovich 20 Brenhizer Blairsville R D 3 and Neil 27 Cokeville and injured two others. John Bohovich 22 and Rocci Capanzaniti Blairsville R D 3 were taken to Latrobe Hospital with back and leg injuries. Police said speeds were high and the car left the road smashing into a cement bridge abutment amid a 360 foot skid and further 100 foot slide.

A. Blair Ansley, County Prothonotary and Clerk of Courts, reports Indiana County crime rose in 1947. Defendants before the Indiana Court numbered 247, up from 215 in 1946, with fines and costs totaling $15,425.56 versus $14,345.08. Of 247 cases, three were dismissed for hung juries, 163 pleaded guilty, 14 were court-dismissed, 16 no-penalty dispositions, 11 jury convictions, and 26 adjusted guilty by the court. 19 defendants were sentenced to state prisons or reformatories and 68 to the county jail or other institutions. Five juveniles were committed to state institutions in both years. Probations on suspended sentences were 48. This was Ansley’s final report before leaving office January 5 as J. Carlisle Orr takes the oath.

Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania will spend about 66 million dollars in 1947 to expand facilities, Chesterman announcing the largest program in its history.
