Two Killed in Subway Crash in Brooklyn and Queens

A subway collision left two dead and nine injured in a Brooklyn incident when an elevated train rear-ended a standing train at a station. Fire and smoke from gates and the electrified third rail filled the cars as passengers fled through windows. Guard George Fletcher was knocked 35 feet to the street, suffering a broken skull. A separate four-car train collision at Long Island City injured four more.

Second Woman Dies In Agony In Ballinger

A Ballinger mother died after giving birth in her apartment last Wednesday with no medical aid. She reportedly asked a janitor on Saturday to burn a package in the furnace, then placed the bundle inside the furnace and left. The janitor found a baby’s body. pathologists say the infant was born alive but died likely due to lack of care.

The YMCA night featured a comedy volleyball match and a hard fought men’s game. Married men beat single men 6 to 4 in basketball. Foundry performers Shook Reed Snyder Morrow wowed spectators on parallel bars and rings. Refreshments followed as officials spoke and families departed.

A high warm spell follows a low pressure system that tracked from Alaska to the Canadian northwest and into the Atlantic coast. Local readings hit 65 degrees on Saturday, the warmest since November 7, 1924. A western disturbance will bring rain and a following Canadian high will turn rain to snow with much colder conditions.
