Drive Begins Tomorrow March of Dimes Campaign

Indiana County starts its 1954 March of Dimes drive with mass mailings of 15 000 coin cards 300 posters and 400 coin collectors plus radio and newspaper promotions. Campaign director William R McMillen of Black Lick says funds will be split into three equal parts for local care national reserve and a new vaccine evaluation fund as part of a nationwide effort to vaccinate second graders and assess the polio preventive drug.

Indian Troops Begin Year End Check

Prisoners moved through a chicken run to an Indian officer for identity check against a master roster. Each captive spoke with the officer briefly to request repatriation while numbers indicate many prisoners were not interviewed during the armistice period.

Pittsburgh Strikers Get DA Warning

Pittsburgh district attorney James Malone warned he will not tolerate violence amid a strike by department and furniture stores. He reported three unidentified men phoned his home. two spoke to his maid to tell him to lay off the strike and the third warned Beware. Following recent stone throwing and paint bombings, police protection was increased. Norman Linnert, 82, AFL Teamsters Local 249 member, was arrested and will be charged in a store executive home stoning last Tuesday. The AFL and other locals struck five department stores, four furniture stores, and a delivery firm serving two more furniture stores, over wage disputes. About 3,700 of 11,000 employees are idle. truck deliveries halted, but retail remains largely open.
