Greenville police said 44 year old Joseph Goetch killed Constable Lester Lanning and Justice of the Peace Ernest Davis with a double action rifle during a confrontation at Goetch’s home three miles north of town amid a police search for his gun. He then shot himself, dying in the cellar after a prior mental observation at the Mercr County Home.
