Epidemic Scare in Berlin Over Bacterial Poisoning

Berlin authorities report more than fifty deaths from poisoning since December 20 at the Municipal Shelter for the homeless on Freeba Street. Sixty to seventy others are seriously ill in hospitals. Director C Gaffky of the Institute for Infectious Diseases says one victim’s death resulted from bacteria poisoning. Officials assert the epidemic is not cholera and notes the disease starts with dizziness, followed by cramps and convulsions. in acute cases death can occur within fifteen minutes.
