Canadian Holiday Death Toll From Highway Crashes

A Canadian Press survey counted 39 holiday weekend deaths in Canada from Friday afternoon to Monday midnight. Ontario and Quebec each reported 13 highway deaths, 19 more died in fires and other accidents. The report contrasts with a prior forecast of 52 by the Canadian Highway Safety Council. India’s industrial output up 60 percent in a decade. Malaya joins the United Nations as the 82nd member in September 1957.

Detroit Executive Dies After Fall in Hotel Tub

Frederick Auguats Kade a 47 year old Michigan executive, Bus inessman, and part owner of the Detroit Tigers, died from burns after falling into a tub of scalding water in a Broward General Hospital hotel tub. He suffered a head injury and passed away Monday night in Florida during a business and pleasure trip with his wife. He rose from radio announcer to president of a group of stations and helped form the syndicate that bought the Tigers in 1957 for 5.5 million, serving briefly as club president.

Colorado Centennial State nickname earned in 1876
