Roosevelt urges steel workers to avoid strikes

President Roosevelt during a Hyde Park Christmas weekend pressed for peaceful settlement of steel and rail labor disputes. Indiana Boy Missing in War Service

Mr and Mrs Paul Buterbaugh Indiana are informed that Paul Donald Butler, 19, from Indiana, went missing since October. Inducted March 30 1943 he trained at Camp Robinson Arkansas. Christmas greeting dated Nov 26 1943 reached parents just before telegram from the War Department.

Thos Al Hart Dies. Noted Engineer and Athlete

Thomas Albert Hart known as Al Hart died Friday December 24 1943 in Indiana of a heart ailment. Born November 21 1891 in Clarksburg Indiana County he attended Indiana State Normal School Pennsylvan ia Shire College and the University of Pittsburgh where he roomed with John B Sutherland and earned hall of fame status as a baseball hurler. Long employed by Pennsylvania Highway Department he helped build the Turnpike and served as chief inspector on runways at Middletown US Airport. He later worked with Gannett Eastman Fleming before returning to Indian Town and joining Rochester Pittsburgh Coal Company noting his deep ties to Indiana County and Muncie area heritage.

Mrs Mary Bell 88 Dies Christmas Day in Indiana

Mrs Mary Jane Bell 88 widow of Hugh M Bell Sr died Christmas morning in Indiana. She was a longtime member of Christ Episcopal Church and mother of eight with five grandchildren. Services were held at the Bell home with Rev James T Marshall officiating and burial in Oakland Cemetery.
