Auto Deaths to be Lower as Year Ends
Harrisburg Dec 27 The state expects to close 1989 with 100 to 150 fewer automobile fatalities than 1988 as a safety campaign cuts deaths by about eight percent from last year. Transseau, head of the Bureau of Highway Safety, projects about 1,740 deaths in 1989 with December alone adding about 200 compared with 197 last December. The plan includes education for drivers pedestrians workers and students and a new statewide reporting method starting January 1 to provide police figures.
