Coroner probes death of Isaac Layton along road
The body of Isaac Layton of White township was found about seven this morning by S. Be. Henry along the B P highway near the Latz schoolhouse. Coroner Frederick W. St Clair and County Detective Harry Koozer are investigating. A post mortem will be held amid signs of a possible powder burn or bullet. Layton had recently visited Indiana and withdrew $20 from a bank account. His pockets and watch were rifled and items taken.

William Leckemby aged 86 of New Brighton died at 1:29 this morning from pneumonia. His wife Mrs Leckemby is critically ill in the Trainer home. Outlaws Wreck Navajo Train Near Hesperia Causing Thirty Injuries
The Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Navajo passenger train bound for Chicago derailed near Hesperia California on December 27 after a band of bandits allegedly torn up rails. More than two hundred passengers slept through the wreck with five Pullman cars and a private car plunging into a 20 foot embankment. Among the injured were Mrs. F J Mackee of Los Angeles and W H Burbage of Winslow Arizona. Mackee was unhurt. Police suspect robbery motive due to mail cars aboard the eastbound flyer.

Laura Frazer, the real Becky Thatcher from Mark Twain stories, died at her home in Hannibal Missouri at age 91. She spent her final years with her son I Ek Frazer near the schoolhouse Becky and Twain attended.
