Fire swept five stores at Southgate Plaza in suburban West Seneca Buffalo and smoke damaged five more. Damage may total $500,000. Loblaw employee Daniel Ford, 17, trapped in a restroom, was rescued by two policemen and a spectator using a tow chain to pry bars from a window. He was treated for smoke inhalation in good condition at Mercy Hospital. Over 300 volunteer firefighters battled the blaze in freezing weather. The flames destroyed Loblaw's Federal meat market Perna Produce Market Town Florist and Burns barber shop.
