A wartime appeal urges buying War Savings Stamps to support Marines and war effort. It recalls Chateau-Thierry and sacrifices of wounded and fallen soldiers, urging readers to contribute at least fifteen dollars and advertise their support. Names and transfers of sums to individuals and towns are listed.
Mrs Charles Beeson and Mr Beeson hosted a festive Twentieth Century Club dance in honor of their daughter Marian Ellen Beeson fresh from Dobbs Ferry Miss Masters School. About 50 couples attended as guests wore shell pink and black outfits and prizes were awarded for cotillion and tables were decorated with holly and candles.
At Pennsylvania State College, officials plan to train five upperclass technical students each year for roles in reconstructing Russia. Each student will focus on a specific technical field and devote about one third of study time to Russian language, economic and industrial history, trade routes, and resources. Fields include agriculture forestry animal husbandry electrical and mechanical engineering mining railway commerce finance education and related areas.
Death occurred Saturday December 4 in Allegheny General Hospital Pittsburgh for Mrs Effie Inez Leipheimer nee Shields formerly of Indiana. Funeral held at parental home with Rev Thomas Charlesworth. Survived by husband Frank A Leipheimer in France infant son Charles Eugene parents and five sisters. Interment Pleasant Hill cemetery Mercer. New York dispatch reports Tom Jones and Jack Curley misread Willard’s independence after he left their control. The suit sought $25,000 of Willard’s earnings, but Willard refused to be served in New York and kept his books private. Curley claimed efforts to profit from fights, while Willard’s actions left both managers blindsided.
