Roy Kidd 28 Dies in Accidental Rifle Discharge

Roy Kidd aged 28 of Glen Campbell died in an accidental rifle discharge at the Jos-Win game preserve in Montgomery township owned by former Senator J. Q. Clark. Kidd, patrolling with a rifle strapped on his back, was found inside a deer corral with the weapon by a party searching for him. The coroner ruled accidental death. a jury returned the verdict.

Skull Fracture after Auto Crash near Armagh

James DeGauge 30 of Blacklick suffered a skull fracture and scalp lacerations after the car he drove struck a concrete culvert west of Armagh on the William Penn Highway. Philip De Forte, 45, also of Blacklick, received facial lacerations and abrasions but left the Memorial Hospital in Johnstown Friday night. DeGauge was semi conscious on admission. the crash reason remains undetermined.

Donation Show This Evening at Indiana Theatre

A charity drive funds admission to the Indiana Theatre for the Christmas show. Food or clothing grants entry to the door keeper for the film College Lovers starring Marian Nixonyou. Two performances at 7 and 9 pm, with a possible third if crowds rise. money alone won’t grant admission.

Indiana Borough Council to Organize and Swear In New Officials

Two weeks from tonight, Indiana Borough Council will organize and swear in the new members. Officers for the next two years will be elected, with Dr. G. J. Simpson or Dr. Howard Buterbaugh named as possible president. John G. Taylor, longtime secretary-solicitor, and John G. St. Clair, longtime treasurer, are expected to continue in their roles. Borough engineer Thomas Pealer likely to be reappointed. All borough employees will come up for consideration at the meeting.

Prize Winner Mrs Dalessio Takes Toy Ford Plane

Mrs. Joe Dalessio of Beyer Pennsylvania won the tri motor toy Ford plane valued at fifteen dollars in a Bon Ton Department Store drawing held at 9:45 Saturday night. Burgess B H Lichteberger drew the lucky coupon. The store gives a coupon each 25 cents spent in the toy department until Christmas with the draw from those numbers.

Pinchot Urges Non-Partisan Relief Work Policy

Governor Gifford Pinchot calls for non-partisan relief employment in Pennsylvania. He says politics must not influence hiring for road work and urges officials to prioritize workers with dependent families, large families first, regardless of party. The letter extends his policy from the State Highway Department to local sub-divisions and urges immediate adoption.

Death closes busy life of Mrs Hetrick

Mrs Helen Jane Prothero Hetrick wife of R D Hetrick died at the family home on Church street after a life of service. Born to John and Mary Prothero in Kellysburg she and her husband settled in Indiana. A longtime Zion Lutheran Church member she was known for hospitality and charitable work in the community.

7-Cent Gas Tax For Tennesseans

Fire alarm from dog saves Clymer building on Franklin Street

Early Sunday a fire threatened a building owned by H. P. Lowechey in Jeannette with occupants John Abraham and John Stapleton. A dog bark and a swift alarm by Mrs. Stapleton allowed firefighters to extinguish a blaze starting near a wood pile and a cellar furnace, with no insurance noted for Abraham. A separate lantern blast caused a $6000 barn loss to Dave Cummings near Davis Postoffice Rayne township.

Fire destroys West Leechburg shop and damages steel firm

KITTANNING Pa Dec 21 UP Fire destroyed the box and carpenter shop and damaged the metal and stock departments of the West Leechburg Steel Company 17 miles south of here. Seventy five men were thrown out of work and property damage was about 50 000. Leechburg and Vandergrift fire departments extinguished the flames after two hours work. A hose was laid to the Kiskiminetas river to secure water.

Pageant at Christ Church Children Present Christmas Pageant

Members of Christ's Episcopal Church Sunday school classes staged a Christmas pageant in the church auditorium. The church choir performed a special musical program. After the pageant, children received a royal Christmas treat with a decorated tree and gifts, candy, and oranges.

Derry Township Wins School District Verdict

Greensburg Pa December 21 The Derry Township school district was awarded 2942.95 with interest in a verdict by Judge C D Copeland in a suit against Derry Borough. The case concerns annexation of township portions by the borough under the 1911 school code for adjusting indebtedness. If no exceptions are filed the decree will become absolute in 10 days.

Stunt flyer Don Aldridge dies in Florida drowning

Don Aldridge known as Don Ray of Chambersburg Pa died after a parachute jump at Winter Haven Florida ended with a fall into Lake Hartridge. His body was recovered an hour after the accident at the Winter Haven municipal airport following the jump amid an aerial meet. Many Indiana friends recall his pleasing personality and thrilling parachute demonstrations at Indiana Airways events.

Four Held In Johnstown Cash Robbery Case

Four men are in custody following the robbery of the American Stores Co district office on Maple avenue. Police say more than $2,000 of $2,600 taken has been recovered and confessions detail each man’s role in the morning holdup as payroll money was being prepared for distribution to employees.
