Editor Short Arrested for Names of Owners Law Violation

Clearfield Pa December 21 John B Short editor of the Clearfield Republican the former Democratic newspaper in this region was arrested on a warrant charging violation of the act of May 22 1907 requiring newspapers to print the names of owners and editors in each issue. The warrant was sworn by State Game Warden Hummelbaugh a Clearfield resident and ally of former State Treasurer Frank G Harris. Short posted 500 bail for appearance at the February quarter sessions. The article notes an attempted stock company formation and that the trade name Clearfield Republican Publishing Company was used before completion. Short has controlled the property since 1902 and has not changed the newspaper’s name or ceased using his name beside editor.
