Brawl Cop Suspended in East Liberty Tavern Fight
Police Inspector John M. Flavin began a day long suspension for failing to arrest anyone in a tavern brawl in East Liberty. Four men faced hearings. Vincent Bellini and Ralph Arcadia fined ten dollars each while Earl Long and Richard Starr were held for further investigation. Flavin testified he and Alderman George Butler entered the tavern for a meal before the fight and that the men fled prior to an arrest. Police Superintendent James Slusser said he acted after learning of the brawl from newspaper accounts.
