Pa School Subsidy Hike Request Due
The Pennsylvania State Education Association plans a next year effort to raise teachers salaries by urging the General Assembly to boost state subsidies to school districts. Executive secretary Harvey Gayman says the plan would cost about 100 million dollars annually and raise the subsidy base from 5,800 to about 9,000 per teaching unit, lifting minimum salaries from 3,600 to 4,500 and increasing automatic pay steps, with proportional local tax effects. The PSEA lists about 80,000 teachers and administrators as members.
