A labor dispute flared with violence late last night as strikers formed lines in front of the News building and blocked buyers. Police received numerous disorder complaints. An office boy was knocked down while papers were seized. officers eventually pushed back pickets and shortened the line from four to two. The old contract, expiring June 30, called for 8.3 dollars for seven hours of night work and 8.80 dollars for eight hours of day work.
The State Defense Council moves to man all 67 Pennsylvania county control centers in future daylight drills after eight centers were unmanned in a Sunday exercise. Dr A C Marts praised churches for their role and urged unprepared congregations to form local defense units.
A weekly report lists 12 motorists losing driving rights under state motor code including Edwin Johnson of Plumville under revocation and Donaled R. Baty of Marshall under suspension. The week ending December 4 saw 239 license withdrawals statewide, with 45 revoked and 194 suspended, 18 more withdrawals than the prior week.

Secretary of the Navy Knox said a naval board of inquiry is conducting a very thorough investigation into the loss of the 21,034-toned Coolidge while operating on an Army transport in the Solomon Islands area. He noted no information that the ship hit one of our mines and said mines could be planted by Japanese subs in the same waters as American mines. The loss was announced Saturday with 4,000 crew and Army troops aboard. all but four were saved.
