A Sunday afternoon blaze gutted the Greiner Building at Oak and 11th in Indiana, a 70 year old landmark valued at 250000 with six or seven prior suspicious fires. Changeover Strains State Bills Payments Delayed

Hundreds of suppliers waited over five months as Pennsylvania halted bill payments on July 1 to reroute federal funds through new legislative and accounting codes. Officials say the overhaul required 20 new identification codes, slowing processing from one hour to four to five hours per invoice and filling Treasury with stacked vouchers during holidays.

Carter May Name More Cabinet Appointees in Georgia

Atlanta sources say President-elect Carter will name W. Michael Blumenthal as treasury secretary and Jane Cahill Pfeiffer as commerce secretary. He plans a 2:30 p.m. news conference to announce additional cabinet posts, including defense, attorney general, and housing and urban development. Other interviewees include Rep. Bob Bergland and judges Frank Johnson and Griffin Bell, with Ray Marshall among potential economics posts.

Employment Security Office Moves

The Indiana office of the Bureau of Employment Security and the Pennsylvania State Employment Service will move from 30 North Fifth St to 450 North Fourth St. Both offices will operate tomorrow Dec 14. Tuesday morning signups occur at the old Fifth St site. skeleton staff at the new Fourth St site handle emergencies and unemployment claims. New phone numbers: 357-3030.

Carter Favored in Electoral College Today

Washington AP reports on the 538 electors meeting to choose the president with Jimmy Carter favored to win. Walter Minch of Parma Ohio is among electors pledged to Carter as 50 state capitals and DC prepare to cast ballots. If 270 votes suffice, Carter could reach 297 to Ford 241, with results announced January 6.

Sunday open in downtown stores drew mixed merchant vote

Downtown Indiana shoppers favored Sunday hours with two major stores planning to stay open next week. Brody and Penney manager Arthur Thompson dislike Sunday openings but say business was good and they will follow legislature guidance. Staffing was adequate, with overstaffing at Brody's.

IUP Student Knifed in Early Morning Incident

Glenn H. Graner a 19 year old Indiana University of Pennsylvania student from Pittsburgh was stabbed in the abdomen during a 7th and Sout Streets Indiana fracas. Police arrested David Dearhouse 21 of Quebec Canada who allegedly knifed Graner and is being held on $5000 bond awaiting a December 16 hearing.

Indiana Man Wounded At Yatesboro

Indiana man Richard Buggs, 23, was wounded in the neck at 11 p.m. Saturday at the Landmark in Yatesboro. He received initial treatment at Indiana Hospital and was transferred to Presbyterian University Hospital in Pittsburgh in good condition. State police investigate the shooting following an alleged agreement. a small caliber handgun was used.
