Mabel Clarke Drowns Skating on Conemaugh River
While skating on the Conemaugh River at Seward Saturday afternoon Miss Mabel Clarke aged about 14 fell through ice and drowned. Her companion a boy named Work was rescued. Several other youths were on the ice. the tragedy darkened the town. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs W Scott Clark. she leaves four brothers and one sister. Mr Clark is an undertaker and furniture dealer in Seward. Three years ago his store and residence burned in Seward’s largest fire.

He was born in Italy and came to this country twenty years ago. He slept in chairs or under counters before this night. Both woke Friday exultant and Blice vowed to sleep in a bed henceforth. He owns a hardware and furniture store.

The Lincoln Debating Club at Indiana State Normal School held its second weekly meeting with 46 members present. The question debated was whether maintaining the state police should be abolished, with the affirmative led by James Sexton and others and the negative by Chas Margiotai and others. The judges were H M Bell Jr, Harry Clawson, and Paul Cunningham. Extemporaneous speakers were Edwin Allison and J L McFarland. The club adopted the name Lincoln Debating Club and chose Huyghenian red and Erodelphian blue as colors by nearly unanimous vote.
