The 73rd annual convention of the Pennsylvania State Grange continues with about 1,000 delegates from across the state. Some 500 private-home sleeping rooms were arranged for attendees. Gov. Edward Martin is slated to address the gathering tomorrow night.
Blairsville schools will not close early despite improved health conditions. Some nearby districts will extend Christmas break due to flu concerns. Two weeks ago the situation was serious enough to justify an earlier end to the term if it had worsened.

Four children aged up to nine perished in a Ehrenfeld residence fire as Floyd Crowell escaped with burns and parents were away. In nearby Greyson, Martha Lay Strum, 25, and her 86-year-old stepfather William Shell died from burns after kerosene exploded a living room heater. two children, William Jr. and Doris Strum, were trapped and perished in the blaze.
