Blizzard Strands Drivers as Thruway Closes in Snow
A fierce wind whipped snow swept southwest of Buffalo forcing hundreds to abandon vehicles along the New York Thruway. Some 150 people plus about 20 children sheltered at a service area while a 24 hour convoy of weary travelers, escorted by snow plows and state police, stretched 15 miles from Angola to Buffalo. Snow belted areas buried under up to 30 inches with 35 mph winds, and 18 inches fell in the latest storm. Several scenes of stranded motorists, shelter staff at the service area, and long waits in cars mark the disruption.
