Man Survives Six Days on Mt Rainier After Snowstorm

SEATTLE AP Norman Hill, 22, was lost six days on Mt Rainier after a Thanksgiving ascent with Mark Boatsman. Separated during a whiteout, Hill trekked toward Paradise in freezing conditions, realizing only Tuesday he was headed wrong way. He exhausted food, lost skis, frostbitten toes, and survived with wet clothes and a sleeping bag, awaiting rescue. Boatsman was found Thursday. Hill reached safety Friday.

Death of Newspaper Heir Stirs Motive Unclear

Philadelphia police say they have no clues or suspects in the stabbing death of newspaper heir John S. Knight II. A diary photo and tape recordings were seized, with reports implying possible motives tied to Knight's sexuality. Knight's roommate and his wife were attacked. jewelry silverware and a $4,000 wristwatch were taken from the 23rd floor apartment.
