Big Electrical Firms Face Sentencing in Antitrust Case

Opposing lawyers prepare recommendations for Judge J Cullen Ganey as he plans early next year to sentence 29 large electrical firms and 44 officials accused of price fixing and bid rigging. Nineteen firms pleaded guilty or no defense on indictments from four grand juries. 35 individuals pleaded guilty and nine pleaded no defense. Westinghouse Electric and General Electric lead indictments with multiple counts. total potential fines could reach about 8 million dollars. The plea changes end one of the era’s largest antitrust actions involving about 2 billion dollars in annual sales to public utilities and governments.

Helfferich Named Vice President of National Council

Don ald L. Helfferich president of Ursinus College in Collegeville Pa was chosen as a vice president at large by the National Council of Churches. He has served on the council's general board since 1954 and is a member of the United Church of Christ. The Rev F P Stocker of Beth Sobers Pa Moravian Church was elected recording secretary. A note in the report says about 3.5 percent of all children in the 1.8 have divorced.

Democrats Report Campaign Spending After Election

Harrisburg AP report details the Democratic State Committee spending and income from the recent election campaign. It notes totals of about $873,714 to $874,714 in expenditures, with $015,000 allocated to various campaigns and entities, and $231,959 received from major contributors. Unspent funds totaled $67,835, while deficits reached $11,796 as the committee lists Gov Law, Sen. Joseph S. Clark, and other top figures among donors and beneficiaries.

Kennedy Leads Nixon In Popular Vote With 144,844

AP figures show John F. Kennedy ahead of Richard M. Nixon by 144,844 votes out of 68.6 million counted, with 42 states mostly reported. Recounts continue in Texas and Cook County as electoral tally stands at 300 for Kennedy and 223 for Nixon, electors meet December 19 to decide.

Aerial Survey Contracted For Roads in Pennsylvania

Harrisburg AP reports a Philadelphia aerial survey contract funds set at 10,188 to cover future high routes in Centre Dauphin Lancaster and McKean counties. Work includes 21 miles of McKean roads and seven miles near Port Matilda plus two miles near Phillipsburg. Lancaster 20 miles southeast of Middletown Elizabeth town Mount Joy will map Route US 230 area. L. Robert Kimball of Ebersburg hired for 11,250 to draft plans for a new bridge over the Clarion River between Jefferson and Forest counties.
