Intensify Effort To Beat Reds (Continued From Page One)

Army missilemen will use their Jupiter C test vehicle a rocket device they claim could have beaten the Russians into space by six months. President Eisenhower was to receive a full report on the Navy Vanguard test failure soon. Vice President Nixon urged Americans to abandon defeatist attitudes and focus on a missile program to surpass the Russians. Cape Canaveral activity hinted at launches of Jupiter, Atlas, Redstone, Thor and other missiles as observers noted no clear sign of a Jupiter C satellite launch. The Thor I firing was declared a success but fell short of its assigned target. General Motors said orders for inertial guidance systems for the Thor were already to volume production.

President's health delays NATO trip plans in Paris

President Eisenhower rests at his farm after a weekend of indoor activities. If doctors approve, the trip to Paris could begin Friday, weather permitting, for the NATO heads of government opening. A 30minute farm drive occurred amid rain and cold. The report also notes the share of tenant farms in 1935 versus 1950.
