New York December 6 Lt Gen Brehon Somervell warned conquest of the Japanese will cost the United States about 71 billion dollars annually after Germany is defeated. He said the Jap war will be the biggest the country has fought and urged a production surge with 306000 more wartime workers needed immediately. He noted munitions are being used faster than produced and warned the full force of the war in Europe may not yet be reached and we are not fully against Japan. Germany is rapidly mobilizing and supplying its troops with vast equipment, while production estimates must be increased by 0.25 percent in the next 90 days to meet the Jap threat.
Mayor Cornelius D. Scully has wired Pennsylvania second and third class city mayors urging a meeting in Pittsburgh or Harrisburg to discuss remedial legislation for their financial problems. About half have replied, favoring a conference.
