Tragedy on Cincinnati and Muskingum Valley Rail Line
A rear collision two miles from Breeden killed eight and fatally injured two others on the Cincinnati and Muskingum Valley branch. Among the dead are Mrs. B. A. Emerson of Zanesville and her two children. several named victims from Zanesville and Cleveland. The Akron train rear-ended an earlier train after its engineer broke down, crushing the rear coach into burning wreckage. Surviving passengers include Harvey Dearinger who escaped by leaping to safety as the impact occurred.

New York December 4 The postponed sale of General Daniel E. Sickles estate to satisfy debts is called off after reconciliation with his wife who promised to pay $5,000 to the Bank of the Metropolis. She has already given $300 and offered to cable for the rest. The bank’s attorney says an agreement has been reached and no sale will occur. Further notes include a Toledo case where Ernest Welch, convicted of tar tax on Minnie La Valley, is housed for work. President Taft denies plans to remove Mrs Helen Longstreet as Gainesville postmistress over Bull Moose activity.
