William Mallonee, a traveling salesman from Pittsburgh, bit into an oyster in Clarksburg West Virginia on December 4 and found twenty five pearls. He planned to seek expert judgment in Wiltshire for the gemstones as townsfolk mobbed him seeking a share of the find.

Closed bank to reopen in New Kensington

Stockholders of the closed First National Bank of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, voted to make up the losses and reopen for business. Reveler Hall, after reviewing the bank’s accounts, said depositors would be paid in full and that the bank was in good condition. Each of the 500 stockholders will contribute his share to cover the deficiency that caused the suspension.
