Humphrey Honored At Carter Benefit Gala Amid Illness

President Carter and 2,500 guests lauded Sen Hubert Humphrey at a black tie fundraiser for the Humphrey Institute of Political Affairs at the University of Minnesota The event drew stars Elizabeth Taylor Lorne Greene Frank Sinatra and Helen Reddy as Humphrey discussed his cancer battle and renewed resolve. Protests and Riots After Bermuda Hangings

In Hamilton Bermuda black teenagers firebombed 14 sites defying a dusk to dawn curfew and riot police used tear gas to scatter demonstrators protesting two black murderers being hanged. The state of emergency was declared to prevent further violence.

District police reported six accidents overnight in addition to one that killed an Indiana jogger. In Derry four were injured in a two car crash on Latrobe Derry Road at 1 50 p m Edward Reinauer Jr 17 of Slickville a driver and three passengers Sueann Reinauer 16 David Rachocki 17 and Laurie Felbaum 4 all of Derry were treated at Latrobe Area Hospital The other driver Kathleen Snyder 27 of Ligonier was attempting a U turn when the mishap occurred Both cars demolished A three car crash occurred at 2 14 a m on Route 422 west of Indiana Police identified the drivers as Allen Glenn Eric Donald Carnahan II Sheloka RD 1 and James Wissinger Indiana RD 5 Further details pending investigation In Cloe Catherine Andrews of Big Run escaped injury after striking a guard rail on Route 259 near Cloe at 11 15 p m Light damage to her car was reported by state police at Punxsutawney.

Libyan plane crash kills 59 pilgrims near Benghazi

A Soviet Tupolev charter flight carrying 165 pilgrims home from Mecca crashed near Benina airport in eastern Libya. At least 59 people died and 43 were injured in the Friday morning disaster many Libyans among the dead. Survivor Najib Salam recounted a late descent and emergency retreat to the rear of the craft before impact.

Blaze Destroys Vacant Trailer in Loyalhanna Area

Fire of suspicious origin destroyed a vacant mobile home in Loyalhanna Township near the Loyalhanna Dam. Saltsburg Volunteer Fire Department received the call at 2 15 p m yesterday. Flames engulfed the metal structure as crews from Loyalhanna and Salem Townships assisted.

Fire damages Indiana University coed housing building

Fire crews responded to a general alarm at 6:45 a.m. for a three story brick building at 34 South Ninth Street. A stereo set in the first floor living room started the blaze, causing an estimated 10 000 dollars in damage mainly from smoke. The property is owned by Fred Runco of Indiana.

Shooting In Bolivar Three Incidents In Area

State police in Greensburg report three criminal incidents in 24 hours including a Bolivar shooting. Gary L. Henderson 35 Bolivar RD 1 is charged with recklessly endangering after firing about 16 rifle shots into Clark's Exxon Service Station from nearby woods at 3 pm Friday. Elizabeth Scott frightened off a would be burglar Thursday night east of Arcadia. intruder window breach and rifle barrel reported. Miller's Laundromat on Route 286 south of Indiana burglarized, entry via vent with $50 stolen.
