Americans reap more interest as rates rise say analysts

The AP report notes rising rates widen who benefits from interest. Government, banks and individuals collect vast sums from Treasury securities, savings accounts, bonds and pension funds while debt levels rise. Lancaster man offers $100 to push space effort

Lester Lehn of Lancaster owns a trailer sales agency and sought to fund a U S space program by donating $100 to the Treasury. After three months of account confusion the government accepted the gift via an open account and he sent a second $100 check plus another donor’s $1.

Eskimos Plea for Natural Gas in Barrow Dialed by Officials

Eskimos of Barrow Alaska seek access to plentiful natural gas for heat and light. State Sen. Eben Hopson, father of eight, writes to President Eisenhower complaining locals are barred from tapping gas pipelines supplying federal offices. Hopson notes coal costs $42 a ton, Barrow’s population about 1300, and that the question is in the hands of the joint chiefs of staff. his Nov 23 letter has gone unanswered.
