Mrs Jesse W Cary of Wayne Avenue joined the Jubilee Luncheon of the Women’s Foreign Missionary Society at the Rittenhouse in Pittsburgh. The Adams room balcony hosted 700 attendees with speakers Mrs Orville Townsend of Zanesville and Mrs Lena Leonard Fisher of Cleveland. Mrs James W Kinnear led as general luncheon chair with Miss Emma A Powler as toastmistress.
Belgium contributions continue with Indiana leading the state at about 8500 dollars. Funds are to be sent to New York City for relief, as a shipbearing ford is readied for the stricken area. Local towns in the region added varying amounts up to 1500 dollars each, with further gifts expected soon.

Pittsburgh dispatch reports detectives and Brackenridge police seek clues into a dynamite blast behind the Trees hotel at Brackenridge Avenue and Mile Lock Lane. Authorities considered a plant to blow up the Allegheny Steel works, but manager W Lester Walker dismissed the theory as absurd. Hotel guest Trees was in a rear room when the explosion happened. The dynamite was tossed over a back-yard board fence and the culprits appeared to flee.
The largest star known, Canopus, shines with a luminosity about 47 000 times that of the sun but is invisible from the northern hemisphere. English astronomer O R Walkley presents lengthy testimony arguing it as the central sun of the universe around which all other orbs revolve.
