Soaproot Soap From Pacific Coast Native Plant

An 19th century note describes the soaproot as a useful coastal plant. Crinkled grasslike leaves grow from a bulb wrapped in coarse fiber. When the onionlike bulb is crushed and rubbed in water, it produces plentiful lather comparable to store bought soap.
