Thomas V. A wracked American Naval transport missing since November 23 was located by Spanish troops near Pelayo between Algeciras and Tarifa. All four crew members were killed. Quincy Roberts, U S Consul at Gibraltar, headed to the scene as salvage trucks were dispatched.

He pocketed 852.28 cash and about 900 in checks before discarding them in the river. He pleaded guilty in federal court and awaits sentence by Judge Dozier Devane.
London reports Britain has information that Bulgaria and Romania exceeded their 1946 peace treaty limits on armed forces. Hungary is below limits, while Romania and Bulgaria reportedly expand land troops antiaircraft units airmen and naval personnel within disputed ranges.
PARIS Dec 1 A Soviet Ukraine foreign minister Dimitri Z Manuilsky told UN Assembly committee that if world affairs stay tense vetoes in the Security Council will rise. He opposed an American British French Chinese plan to curb veto abuse and said Arce of Argentina is no Don Quixote but his horse. He said the USSR uses veto to protect its interests, noting 28 vetoes with the last on Oct 25 against a Berlin crisis proposal.
Los Angeles dispatch reports film star Rita Hayworth obtained a final divorce decree from writer Orson Welles. The affidavit states there has been no reconciliation since the interlocutory order issued in 1947. Hayworth, born Margarita Cansino, had previously wed Edward Judson and Welles had remarried.
Washington dispatch reports the Air Force expects to form combat units of the B40 flying wing no sooner than 1951. About 30 large jets are on order, with production timelines delaying squadron formation. The B-49 weighs 213000 pounds and is rated as a medium bomber with a 1500 mile radius.
Tokyo December 1 The United States Supreme Court will decide on appeals by Gen Kenji Dobara and former premier Koki Hirota before seven major Japanese warlords, including Hideki Tojo, are executed. MacArthur’s Public Information Office said all seven death sentences will not be carried out pending the high court’s decision. Tojo did not appeal.
Lovejoy Georgia December 1. Engineer Henry R. Lee waved to a girl born without arms above the elbows. He later started a fund that grew from $2 to $46 and $28 to $250 in following years as railroad men donated to help Grace Purcell. Proceeds fund her college and eyes for artificial limbs.
