Guerrillas Attack Algiers Area Amid Civil War Fears

In Chan Garnier near Affreville a 300-strong Algerian crowd built barbed wire barricades and roamed the highway, while 15 miles from Algiers heavy troop movements and calls to mobilize villagers fueled fears of civil conflict. Officials said Wilaya 4 controlled the area within 80 miles of the capital as telephone lines were cut and Algerian forces, armed with Soviet and Chinese weapons, moved toward Algiers. The army, under Boumedienne, acted on Ben Bella’s orders to bring Algiers under party authority, with about 48,000 troops and 25,000 guerrillas across wilayas. Guerrillas vowed to defend the capital against a 'fascist dictatorship' and urged public mass protests.

Ban Cigarette Sales In Hospitals In Manchester

State Insurance Commissioner Theodore Gutowicz said employers will save roughly $1.7 million on policies issued from Sept 1.
