Court Upholds Custody ruling in Hertogh case
SINGAPORE Aug 31 The Supreme Court of Appeals upheld a lower court decision awarding custody of Moslem reared Maria Bertha Hertogh to her Roman Catholic mother and annulling the marriage to Inche. The ruling ends the Malayan teacher's bid to regain the 14 year old girl he married and lost to her mother.

Court dismisses Adabi appeal in Maria Hertogh custody case
The court unanimously upheld the dismissal of Mansoor Adabi's appeal over custody of Maria Hertogh. The long case began with riots last December between police and Muslims supporting the husband, leaving four dead and over a hundred injured. The girl, now living with her mother in Holland, had been claimed abducted by Che Aminah during the Japanese occupation of Java. The court ruled Aminah married the girl to Adabi to block custody. Adabi's lawyer may take the matter to the British Privy Council.
