Lions View Little League Film At Indiana Lions Club

The Indiana Lions Club screened a sound film about the National Little League World Series featuring young players ages nine to twelve. Plane May Be Lost East of Pittsburgh

Search for two Air Force fliers missing since Friday concentrates east of Pittsburgh. Capt William R Parker 31 of Sheriden PA and 1st Lt Joseph R Walker 27 of Homeville PA left Wright Field Dayton OH for Pittsburgh in an AT 6 training plane.

Gunman Invasion of City Hall Vault in Chicago

Two gunmen invaded the eighth floor City Hall Municipal Court clerk’s office in Chicago last night. They died after spending over three hours inside, taped two watchmen, and smashed a vault. Police found less than $390 in the vault and unconfirmed court records, with no attempt to breach other cashiers’ cages.

Study Plans Made For Pa Highway Program

Harrisburg August 30 The 1949 Legislature orders a major study of Pennsylvania s $100 000 000 yearly highway program. An 11 member commission will be appointed by Governor Duff to complete a 1949 50 report by November 1 1950 outlining financing and long range plans including new legislation. The plan covers traffic needs highway locations urban main roads and farm to market routes plus maintenance and safety. A gas tax increase and a highway authority are cited as financing steps. Other new laws enacted effective September 1 ban TV sets in cars and loosen overhead signals rules while affecting ambulance regulation truck height and accident reporting thresholds.

Clymer Kiwanis Hears Reports at Dinner Meeting

The Clymer Kiwanis held a dinner meeting at the First Presbyterian Church basement with 39 members present. President Gordon Gibson presided as committee chairmen reported on underprivileged children, agriculture, public relations, church support, finance, inter-club affairs, law and regulations, projects, Kiwanis education, and other items. Six Japanese Are Sentenced For Spreading Rumors

In Osaka a U S 25th Division court sentenced six Japanese to five years hard labor for disseminating rumors that denigrated the occupation forces. Prosecutors said the case stemmed from a poster campaign allegedly conducted by Communists.

School for Blind To Start In Armstrong and Indiana Counties

The Pennsylvania Association for the Blind will begin home Braille, typing and handicraft instruction soon for more than 50 blind residents in Armstrong and Indiana Counties. Ann Waresack notes a Home Teaching Service is needed after two months of initial work. Braille will be taught first, with goals of reducing inactivity and fostering rehabilitation and employment.

Vaughan Denies White House Aid For Maragon Trip

Vaughan testified he helped Maragon at times but never authorized him to speak for him or the White House. He denied telling the State Department that President Truman was personally interested in Maragon’s 1945 trip to Europe for a perfume company. Vaughan admitted a letter seeking permission for the trip, dated Aug. 3, 1945, but said Truman was not aware of it. He claimed gifts of seven home freezers from the Albert J. Ver ley Perfume Co. were private gifts, with no White House connection. He asserted no action taken for gifts or favors involving business interests with or without White House approval. The hearing room was crowded with reporters as Vaughan presented a prepared denial and identified his official role.
