Harrisburg Aug 30 The employment board of the Department of Public Assistance moved quickly to complete its civil service reorganization as the September 1 deadline for merit appointments neared. Secretary Hugh F Dolan Jr said about 700 certificates were with County Assistance Boards and most county appointments could be made this week. About 16 500 people had applied for jobs. 500 technical state office positions remain. The Goodrich bills set the Sept 1 date, while an ongoing legislative inquiry into the merit system continues during the Assembly recess.

Better Food Recommended by Pennsylvania Official

York, Aug. 30. Hotels and restaurants licensed by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board were urged to improve meals.
