Eve Joie Chitwood's daredevil auto thrill show pairs with a star studded New York stage act at the Mack Community Center during Indiana County Fair. Leap of death head on collisions rolling stunts promise thrills tonight at nine o'clock for fairgoers.
The Wage Stabilization Board took over the copper strike at President Truman's request and urged the Mine Mill and Smelter Workers Union and other unions idle by picket lines to return to work while hearings are held. The move signals the possibility of returning the dispute to the White House if the walkout continues.
The Senate passed a bill to curb U S aid to nations shipping strategic materials to Russia and its allies, with 55 voting for and 16 against. It targets arms, ammunition, atomic energy materials, petroleum, and other war production items, though NSC exemptions may apply. The measure returns to the House for concurrence after Senate changes.
Indiana County District Attorney J Murray Buterbaugh announced eight cases will be heard by the grand jury next week beginning Tuesday at 9 a.m. Defendants include Harry Morgan Barger for burglary and larceny, Joe J Saffron for accessory after the fact of larceny, Harry Falsh for larceny and receiving stolen property, Arthur Buterbaugh for assault and battery, Joseph Kopchick for aggravated assault and battery, Helen Kopchick for assault and battery, Edith Yar Blairsville for sale of malt or brewed beverages without a license, and Thompson of Blairsville for sale of liquor without a license. The physician reported to the hospital on Sept 1, was commissioned as a lieutenant and is a graduate of Kiski Prep, Ursinus College, and Jefferson Medical College. Dr Thompson, son of Mr and Mrs John M Thompson of Blairsville, joined the staff of Talinco State Hospital after internship at Allegheny General.

The Indiana County Housing Authority named Richard R. Thomas executive director and secretary. He will oversee low rent housing projects in Indiana County and handle administrative duties. Thomas has five years housing director experience across six projects and is a graduate of Indiana State Teachers College. He will assume duties September 1.
Two Indiana County soldiers arrived in San Francisco aboard the transport Aiken Victory after serving in Korea. Pfc. Richard D. Wolfe of 948 Chestnut Street Indiana and Seaman Charles J. Lash, Box 47 Star, were discharged to return home yesterday.
Two Britton Construction pipeline crew workers were ordered held for court after a knife fight at Cherry Tree. Fred Ponders of Texas faced 2000 bond and remained jailed. Joseph Barnyak of Sandy Ridge posted 500 bond and was released. Barnyak was slightly wounded. both men filed mutual charges. The incident occurred Saturday on a Valentine’s Day pipeline project.
Arden Dean aged 48 died of a heart attack at the Crawford County Fair Grounds yesterday. He was managing editor of the Cambridge Springs Enterprise News, a semi weekly paper based in Cambridge Springs.

General Ridgway rejected a reinvestigation of the Kaesong bombing and pressed North Korea and China to resume armistice talks when they end what he called the unjustifiable delay. He said a reinvestigation would serve no purpose and noted a Red liaison officer blocked further daylight inquiry during August 22 events.
The Public Utility Commission authorized Kittanning Telephone Co. to raise rates for 13,000 subscribers by 50,200 dollars per year, effective Sept. 1. The 6.62 percent hike affects Armstrong Indiana Clarion and Westmoreland counties with about 75 percent of customers paying roughly 10 cents more monthly.

Lee Kline a 20 year old 4 H member won Grand Champion in baby beef with Aberdeen Angus Victory II and also took the fitting class at the Indiana County Fair. His sister Janet 11 placed third behind Harry M Stewart 18 who held Reserve Champion with Aberdeen Angus Buck. Janet’s Hereford steer and Thomas King 18 from Marion Center RD 1 won the showman Grand Champion with Rudy the Shorthorn.
Reports from Pont St. Esprit and nearby towns describe a bizarre illness tied to bread from local bakeries, killing four in Pont St. Esprit and causing hundreds to seek care. Ergot poisoning is suspected, with authorities banning flour from several mills and even river fishing as investigations spread.
