Huntington West Virginia August 26 Millard F Pratt of Catlettsburg Kentucky and M V Jarrett of Glenn Hayes Wayne county timber dealers were murdered near Naugatuck in Mingo county. Their bodies were found by a freight train crew and initial thoughts suggested a train accident. Autopsy showed both men were shot with Jarrett perforated by pitimes and Pratt hit by two bullets. They were returning from a timber deal in Lincoln county when killed.
Boonville Indiana August 26 evidence linking William Lee to the murder of his mother father and brother and to the attempted arson of a house to hide the crime was presented to the coroner in blood smeared torn and scorched undergarments. The shirt stomach bears a bloody streak as if from wiping a bloody hand and the underwear found on Lee matched the size and grade of his current garments.
Dun's Review of Trade reports improved conditions for dry goods in Boston with fair retailer demand and growing wash goods orders. Pittsburg shows slowly rising activity and fall winter orders, while merchants remain cautious. Also notes a fatal auto wreck near Glenfield in which William L. Barron died and Harry Clark injured. Also mentions drought relief ad and Foley Kidney Pills for sale.
Mrs Reginald Vanderbit led the response as a fire endangered the Vanderbilt farm at Andy Point Newport R I Aug S4. She coordinated workers who battled the flames from building to building and ordered evacuation of a power plant structure to save operations. The blaze caused substantial damage, estimated at least $10,000 to the power plant and plant facilities.
Laporte Ind Aug 22 Coroner of this city seeks to identify the owner of a human leg discovered in a blood pool at Alida Ohio County. Alida lies on the Baltimore and Ohio railroad and authorities believe a railroad accident may be involved.
