Aug 20 Fernandina Florida Twenty men aboard an American steamship bound for New Orleans were drowned when the vessel sank off the coast of Florida after a fierce gale. Two Italians and Spaniards survived by leaping into a small boat as the ship listed and vanished beneath the waves.
