Homer-Center Schools Open Sept. 2 Amid Bus Schedule Overhaul

Homer City district prepares for the 1969-70 term with an estimated 1,065 elementary and 964 secondary students, a new bus timetable, and several staff changes including William J. McCluskey as assistant high school principal. The calendar runs from Sept. 2 opening through June 4 with in-service days and holiday blocks. renovations and updated classrooms noted across Graceton Risinger Lucerne and Homer City schools.

Group Elects New President at Annual Convention

The group elected a new president and directors for Children’s Hospital. Mrs. Fran A. Harris was named special features coordinator for WWJ stations in Pittsburgh. Dorothy Shuler was chosen planning consultant for the U.S. Office of Education. Lloyd Cissy Stewart named editor of the Fort Worth Eve. The 32nd annual convention in St. Paul, Minnesota, was noted with officers elected for development and public relations.

Thousands Of Geese Die From Waterfowl Botulism In California

In central California thousands of ducks, geese and other waterfowl have died from waterfowl botulism caused by a bloom of bacteria in rotting vegetation. State and federal officials, with volunteers, are using rockets, dynamite, and aircraft to chase birds from poisoned waters along the Pacific migratory bird flyway. Ray Arnett urged an off season duck hunt, but Interior Secretary Hickel refused, calling it too drastic.
