County Fair Opens Sunday Evening With Family Focus
The 9th annual Greater Indiana County Fair opens Sunday evening at the J S Mack Community Center with a Harvest Festival Service at 7 30 p m. The weeklong program features livestock shows agricultural exhibits and various attractions including a Pet Show and a $400 Grandstand Giveaway. Kathleen Hamm 17 of Lehigh County will reign as Miss Milkmaid of 1961 visiting Tuesday and Wednesday. Numerous health agencies will be represented throughout the fair.

Two Injured In Waterman Road Crash
Two young Homer City area residents were hospitalized in fair condition after a Route 56 collision yesterday afternoon. Donald E. Shaffer, 17, suffered a left shoulder fracture and scalp and leg abrasions. Norma Shaffer, 15, had facial lacerations and possible concussion. The truck driver, Lawrence Anderson, 38, reportedly had possible back injuries but was not treated. State Police attributed the crash to the Shaffer car leaving the road, losing control, and colliding head on with Anderson’s truck. Damages were about 2300 for the car and 1500 for the truck.

One Killed Two Hurt In Tavern Fight
In the Hill District of Pittsburgh a man was killed and two others injured during a dispute outside a tavern. William Alexander, 31, of the Hill District, was arrested on murder and related charges after allegedly firing a pistol into a crowd. Ernest Hendley, 41, died at Mercy Hospital from a head wound. Larnell Goodman, 43, and Charles Horne, 38, were treated for foot wounds. Police say the weapon was drawn during the argument.
