Frank Burke of Carrick Pa was rescued after six hours adrift in Lake Erie his partner James Knight 34 of Barcelona New York drowned. The boat motor failed and the pair drifted near the Canadian shore Burke was saved but Knight's body was not found. Burke recalled a passenger boat passed nearby but aid did not reach them. Knight and Burke had left Barcelona for a pleasure trip in a 40 horsepower boat.
In Tonopah Nevada samples of clay from a millstone deposit near Las Vegas are tested with eastern chemists producing rubber from the material. The clay reportedly contains seventy percent rubber elements and a firm has an option on hundreds of acres. If commercially viable it could disrupt rubber monopolies and lower tire costs, prompting local excitement among engineers and automakers.

A wedding between James Pieges Vandergrift and Mrs Alles of Plumville is announced for Wednesday with a homecoming planned.
The mine sweeper Pelican and two seaplanes comb Hawaii waters for signs of a green flare seen by an army officer last Sunday. Efforts include a thorough patrol of Mauna Kea and the slopes, but no source has been found yet. In other news, Attorney John L Getty entertains Mrs. W D Hamilton of Pittsburgh and Mrs R M Wilson of Oberlin as relatives visit. Robert and Sarah Wilson noted, with Ruth and Rebecca Wilson also studying at Oberlin College.
