Arkansas Farmers Welcome Alligators Back To Swamps

Farmers who helped eradicate alligators decades ago are welcoming the reptiles back to humid swamps in south and east Arkansas to control beaver and poisonous snake populations. The alligator is endangered and protected by a federal list with fines up to 25000 for killing one. Arkansas has restocked pockets with Louisiana imports since 1972, funded mainly by transportation costs.

Robber Escapes During Chicago Cubs Game Field Trip

Harold Jeffries, 42, serving a 5 year term for a 1972 St Marys bank robbery, used the seventh inning stretch to walk away from an escorted group of federal prisoners at Wrigley Field. Guards reported his absence when the game ended. FBI noted he did not return with the group. Cubs defeated the Giants 3 2.
