Williamsport Aug. 24 The state Prohibition convention debated platform terms and four tickets. Officials named include John D. Gill Greensburg for Supreme Court and Homer L. Castle Pittsburg for Superior Court. Charles W. Montoursville nominated for state treasurer. The party denounced liquor laws and pledged allegiance to the national Prohibition party.
President Roosevelt intensifies bid for peace by direct appeal to Emperor Nicholas via Ambassador Meyer. A long cable instructed Meyer to press Russian rulers for concessions in the Portsmouth peace conference. Officials report not all details of responses or audience with the emperor are known, but negotiations continue with hope for a peaceful settlement.
