State Police report Russell Swenson of Apollo was injured around 3:00 am when his car driven by his wife Kathleen Swenson veered off Route 422 east of Shelocta in heavy fog and struck a cement bridge. He was treated for facial wounds at Indiana Hospital. passengers escaped unharmed. Vehicle damage was listed at 500 dollars.

Ernest Team Wins First Aid Meet at Indiana Fair Grounds
The Ernest Mine No 3 first aid team of Rochester and Pitts burgh Coal Co captured first place in the North Central District Safety Association meet held Saturday at the Indiana Fair grounds. The seven man squad scored 99.07 points earning $175 and the right to represent the district at the state meet in Latrobe. Barr Mine No 1 team of Clearfield Bituminous Coal Corp took second with 99.53 and $140, Commodore Mine placed third with 99.27. State Mine Secretary Richard Maize presented the trophy and praised the industry’s safety efforts.

Police Seize Another Road Highwayman in Indiana Case
Carl Williamson 20 of Pittsburgh was arrested in Pittsburgh and returned to Indiana County Jail after admitting to the August 18 armed robbery of Paul Fleming 18 of Indiana. Williamson is the second of four men named by Donald Fusilli who also implicates Nardozi and Reynolds as fugitives. Fleming was robbed of $45 after a beating and being thrown from a moving car near a local hotel in Indiana.

Three Sailors Die In Blast At Guam Tank Farm
Three sailors were listed as killed and a fourth missing after a spectacular fire and series of explosions at a Navy gasoline tank farm near Apra Guam. Officials attributed the blaze to sparks from a jeep entering the area to rescue men overcome by fumes. The fire began about 1 15 a m and raged over five hours, drawing thousands of spectators to the scene five miles from Apra.
