Shaw of Poteau Oklahoma, received a personal note from Yamashita. The move is seen as an effort to smooth surrender prospects for the Japanese commander.
The FBI announced 118 men, including stewards, waiters, and cooks on New York Central and Erie trains, were arrested for a dining car racket costing over 100000 dollars. Schemes involved oral orders without checks, blank checks, and misused government meal tickets, with stewards sharing proceeds with staff. Arrests occurred in New York, Newark, Buffalo, and Chicago.
