In Youngstown Pennsylvania an attempted kidnapping was thwarted when nine year old Helen Maropulis heard screams and alerted bystanders. She reported two men in a car tried to pull her into their vehicle before releasing her and fleeing. The incident follows the murder of Beatrice Rosenbaum previously abducted from nearby Salem Ohio.
Oslo August 23 The Russian ice breaker Krassin has completed preparations to sail tonight from Stavanger to resume the Arctic search for missing members of the Italia dirigible and for members of the Amundsen party. The first stop will be Spitzbergen.
Authorities scanned a note found on a beach at Westport near Aberdeen that may be by Mildred Doran, one of the Dole flight victims. The message, written on paper inside a perfume bottle, reads Gas gone water running low Been floating on wing tips four days October 2, 1927 with a signature likely Miss Mildred Doran.

An air plane carrying American mail for France was catapulted from the steamship Ile De France near the Scilly Islands. It refueled at Cherbourg and landed at Le Bourget with eighty pounds of mail including Kellogg notes on the anti war treaty. The Ile De France sails to Havre tomorrow. Harold Simpson of the State Banking Department is visiting his parents in Philadelphia.
