Family Day at Indiana County Fair Highlights Week

Blairsville blood drive collected 38 pints toward an 85 pint quota with 46 donors, led by Steve Surta’s 40th pint and Mary Crawford’s 30th. Attendance remains strong at the Indiana County Fair with 15,000 for 4-H Day, as Governor Leader attended and Grand Ole Opry performances loom. Children’s Day awaits free admittance and kiddies events including pet shows, circuses, and bicycle giveaways funded by the Indiana Evening Gazette coupon program.

Pittsburgh officials announced the search for J R Jamison, 43, of Greensburg, continues in the Allegheny River for his body after an earlier report of a recovery proved erroneous. Jamison fell from the cabin cruiser of Greensburg attorney William Steel near the Highland Fly Pointing and Boating Club at Aspinwall Tuesday night.

Freeway Project in Ohio to Start This Year

Ohio highway chief Charles M. Noble announced work on the Lake Erie to Ohio River Freeway will begin in Ashtabula County this year. The route will run near Route 46 from Ashtabula to Canfield, pass between Columbiana County and Leetonia, then connect at Lisbon with relocated U S 30 to East Liverpool.

Stay granted on Little Rock nine school desegregation ruling

The 8th U S Circuit Court of Appeals granted a stay on its decision to overturn Judge Lemley and return seven Negro pupils to Central High in Little Rock. Chief Justice Gardner said the stay allows the Little Rock School Board to appeal to the Supreme Court while NAACP arguments were noted, with the mandate to be issued immediately if denied.

Two Car Crash Kills PA Highways Worker on Route 156

Frank White 70 of Indiana died in a two car collision two miles south of Shelocta while en route to a road project in Armstrong County. The other driver George Malcholm sustained chest and back injuries. White’s car damage estimated at 200 dollars. State Police continue investigation and an obituary will run tomorrow.

Faubus Orders Standby Legislature Over Integration Crisis

Gov Orval Faubus placed Arkansas Legislature on standby for a possible Monday session to address the Central High School integration tension. The Little Rock School Board failed to delay entry of seven Negro students, while riots earlier halted nine entrants and Eisenhower once sent paratroopers. Faubus planned to alert 100 House members and 35 senators but would not commit to a call yet.

Arab States Back Middle East Peace Formula

Arab nations including Lebanon and Jordan endorsed a four point plan aimed at quickly ending the U N emergency session. Indiana Tiny Town Sold and Moved Near Kittanning

The world famous Tiny Town was sold yesterday and will relocate to Kindyland Park two miles north of Kittanning on Route 66. Norman and Priscilla Staley of Kittanning bought the miniature display, which will open to the public on Labor Day after years of drawing visitors from all states and 30 foreign countries.

Death Claims Veteran Lawyer in Pittsburgh

Robert J. Dodds, 81, veteran lawyer and former U S attorney for western Pennsylvania, died at his Pittsburgh home after a long career spanning more than five decades. A Pitt Law School graduate, he retired in 1953 and served as trustee for Alie pheny and Westminster Colleges and the American University in Cairo.
