In Canton on August 21 state troopers and Pennsylvania railroad police searched for the person who wedged a 14 inch iron bar between rails on the Elmira Williamsport line. Charles Grantier, 72, a retired clerk, found the obstruction about 1000 feet north of the station while returning from a visit with a son. Earlier this week a youth was arrested at Sunbury on a charge of obstructing the railroad’s main line between New York and the west.

Obituary continues detailing Mrs Anna E Lockhart death at 726 Locust street with services at 2 30 p m Tuesday at Robinson Funeral Home and burial in Oakland Cemetery. Born October 13 1859 in Penn Run she was daughter of George and Anna Ray widow of T T Lockham. Surviving brother and two sisters listed. Also notes death of Albert Remsberg father of Laura Remsber a faculty member at Indiana State Teachers College. William Lewis Crum 79 died in Middletown Mass., survived by son Alpha Crum and daughter Mrs Carl Fleming, three grandchildren. Burial and church services planned with Rev Robert Richter officiating.
New York August 21 1 Clen denin J Ryan 56 son of late Thomas Fortune Ryan railway magnate was found dead at his Fifth Avenue home from illuminating gas poisoning. Police said his head was inside a gas heater with jets open when discovered by a business agent. the butler suffered a heart attack upon the discovery.
Commander Lawrence Sawyer of the Jocal Veterans of Foreign Wars Past announced that application forms and information on examinations for State Department of Public Assistance passes are available at the VFPW Club near Homer City Road in White Township. Democratic County Chairman H R Spicher said he has obtained extra blanks and they may be obtained at the Democratic Clubrooms Indiana.
German authorities cite trade between Germany and Hungary shrinking from about 320 million to under 40 million in two years under a revolving credit started in 1936. Nazi quarters insist Hungary will stand with Germany and Italy, with Foreign Minister Count Csaky pledging 100 per cent cooperation after meetings with Mussolini and Galazzo Cidno in Italy and discussions with Nazi leaders in Germany.
Neva Laughlin 38 wife of Charles Laughlin was found dead by her husband at 961 Church Street Indiana from a self inflicted head wound with a .22 pistol. Coroner John Woods ruled death by own action due to despondency over ill health. Survived by husband mother two sisters and a brother. Funeral at Mannington West Virginia with services tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the home of her mother.
In Harrisburg authorities prepared to charge 22 year old John J Sukle with complicity in three hold ups. One outfit involved a fatal shooting after a tussle with two hitch hikers as they robbed an insurance agent. A by pass scene near Hanmailstown was cited as the attempted holdup. The case links Sukle to taxicab robberies and a fatal by self harm question remains pending hospital reports.
Dr. J A Shaw director of the minerals division and oil industry czar for Louisiana was found fatally wounded at his home. A revolver lay nearby and he died on the operating table. coroner called it suicide as federal investigators grapple with the case and state affairs.
In yesterday's National League action Chicago fell to Pittsburgh 5 to 4 while New York beat Philadelphia 8 to 4. St Louis defeated Cincinnati 7 to 1, then won 7 to 5 in another game. Brooklyn and Boston rain called in sixth inning. Today Cincinnati meets Philadelphia, St Louis visits Brooklyn, and New York hosts Chicago. Also report from Del Monte California says British stage star DEL MONTE and Joan Fontaine wed yesterday. Fontaine 21 and Aherne 37, both previously unmarried.

President Roosevelt watched aboard the Tuscaloosa as the battleship and destroyer Lang staged a mimic battle off northern Nova Scotia. Cruising abreast at 1,800 yards, they moved at about 23 knots as crews rushed to stations amid general alarms for elemental gunnery drills. The Tuscaloosa trained 8 inch guns while the Lang showcased 5 inchers and torpedoes.
